Connect Mediation

Introduction

Often with commercial, civil or workplace relationships there can be non-complex, low value disputes where it may be un-workable or the mediation fee is disproportionate to the claim to meet face-to-face or the conflict simply does not warrant it. This is where our Connect Mediation platform can be most useful.


Connect Mediation, a form of remote mediation, is a unique mediation platform designed by Collis Mediation Ltd which has proved useful in situations where there exists a low value or non-complex issue, which does not warrant a comprehensive face-to-face mediation session or a non face to face mediation is simply preferred by the participants.


Connect Mediation is a platform where a solution is formulated remotely through telephone and/ or video conferencing, and is ideal for disputes where a face-to-face meeting may be impractical, perhaps where parties live/ work far apart, where the mediation fees would be disproportionate to the claim or it is not commercially viable to congregate in person.

  • Benefits

    Typically a low value dispute (less than £5000) can be dwarfed by legal costs. Likewise, a face-to-face mediation can be an impractical way to settle lower value claims.


    Connect Mediation offers a robust, convenient, practical and considerably cheaper option than court which appeals to today's online generation and business environment, to whom the internet is second nature.

The Process

The Connect Mediation date and time is agreed, this is usually set for a block time, for example 09:00 to 11:00, where both participants need to have access to a computer and with phone facilities free from distractions, at home or work for example.


We start with a separate and private introduction phone call or video call to each participant, to talk through how the Connect Mediation process will work; and answer any questions they may have on the proceedings.


We then speak to each participant in private obtaining a clear picture and opening statements and positions regarding the disagreement.


The mediator will shuttle between the participants building up respective points of view, clarifying specific facts and finding common ground.

  • Devils Advocate

    The mediator may play devils advocate and ask participants to reflect on specific areas of your position and the prospect of court, costs, time, stress, inconvenience and the risk of losing.

  • Aims

    The aim of Connect Mediation is exactly the same as a face to face mediation, to clarify, narrow down and establish an agreement to settle or a basis on which to move forward.


    The mediator may then bring the participants together via Zoom Pro, Skype Meet Now or Microsoft Teams or just via a telephone conference platform.

  • Suitability of Connect Mediations

    Connect Mediation is suitable for mediations that are deemed 'non complex' and should conclude within 1 to 2 hours. Connect Mediation requires a real need for both parties to have a 'solution focussed' approach and a realisation of the bigger issue at stake if the matter did not settle, or it proceeded to court.


    Connect Mediation is a cost effective solution for non-complex, low value matters. It requires a real appetite for a solution based approach but avoids the cost, stress, time and inconvenience of a more formal route to redress.
