Carbon Reduction and Net Zero Plan

Collis Mediation Ltd – Carbon Reduction and Net Zero Plan

Target: Net Zero by 2050

Collis Mediation Ltd is committed to reducing its environmental impact and achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As a small professional services organisation, the company’s carbon footprint is primarily associated with energy use, business travel, digital operations, and procurement. This plan outlines the steps the company will take to reduce emissions over time.

1: Baseline Emissions

A formal baseline year will be established using available data from 2024 or 2025. Emissions are expected to fall mainly within electricity use, business travel, commuting, and purchased goods and services. Scope 1 emissions are expected to be minimal or zero.

2: Key Reduction Areas

Energy Use

Collis Mediation Ltd will reduce energy consumption by improving efficiency in office or home‑office environments. The company will transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and encourage energy‑saving behaviours among staff.

Travel and Commuting

The company will prioritise remote mediation sessions where appropriate to reduce travel emissions. For necessary in‑person meetings, public transport, car‑sharing, and active travel will be encouraged. Flights will be avoided unless essential.

Procurement

The company will purchase energy‑efficient IT equipment and work with suppliers who demonstrate strong environmental practices. Paper use will be minimised through digital‑first working methods.

Waste Management

Collis Mediation Ltd will reduce waste through recycling, responsible disposal of IT equipment, and limiting single‑use items. The aim is to achieve zero‑to‑landfill waste by 2035.

Digital Footprint

The company will manage its digital emissions by optimising cloud storage, deleting unnecessary files, and using lower‑carbon digital tools where possible.

3: Targets and Milestones

By 2025, the company will complete its emissions baseline and embed digital‑first practices. By 2030, it aims to reduce electricity‑related emissions by 50% and travel emissions by 25%. By 2040, the company aims for a 70% reduction in total emissions compared to the baseline. Net zero will be achieved by 2050 through continued reductions and the use of high‑quality carbon removal schemes for any residual emissions.

4: Monitoring and Reporting

Progress will be reviewed annually, with updates to the reduction plan every two years. The company will track energy use, travel, procurement, and waste to ensure continuous improvement.

5: Residual Emissions

Any emissions that cannot be eliminated by 2050 will be balanced using verified carbon removal projects such as reforestation or engineered carbon capture.

6: Engagement

Collis Mediation Ltd will promote sustainable practices among staff, clients, and suppliers, and will encourage environmental awareness within the mediation sector.
